EWGA Wines is a wine-importing business founded in 1972, sourcing wines from around the world. The company distributes wines to hospitality businesses and other wholesalers all over the UK.
Carbon footprint
We are a carbon-neutral operation in our offices and warehouses thanks to the installation of solar panels and energy-efficient equipment. We use sea freight where possible and ship our key wine ranges un-bottled in flexitanks. This method of shipping emits the lowest amount of CO2 per tonne-kilometre compared to any other transport method. European loads are consolidated and most of our imports come by rail or sea freight, reducing emissions by 75% compared to road transport.
Staff welfare & progression
We invest in our staff welfare and progression by providing them with training and education opportunities. Furthermore, we promote within the company whenever possible to allow our employees to flourish. We have a very good track record of employee retention with some of our team members being with us for over 20 years.
Use of renewables
Our warehouse and offices are powered by solar power thanks to the panels installed on the roofs of our warehouses. We use an electric delivery van for local deliveries and the whole sales team uses electric vehicles. We have electric car chargers installed on our premises so we can charge our vehicles without any unnecessary travel.
Waste management and recycling
Waste reduction and recycling are key parts of our internal sustainability efforts. We are avid recyclers and reuse what packaging we can to minimise litter. Around 90% of all waste generated in the business is recycled and we educate our staff about sustainability.
Packaging
We use recyclable and sustainably sourced cardboard instead of plastic for our outbound deliveries. We removed all single-use plastics from our product portfolio. For the wine brands that we control, we favour using lighter-weight glass bottles as their reduced weight contributes significantly to saving resources and reducing CO2 emissions.
Community focused activities
EWGA Wines tries to be very involved in the local community, from donating prizes to local charities to sponsoring local sports teams. We sponsor a local cricket team, the Silverdale Cricket Club. In 2024, we launched a pair of wines, called The Pikes, where for every bottle sold, we donate 50p to Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team, supporting their crucial work in rescuing mountaineers in the central Lake District.
Supply Chain Partners
We work with wine producers who care about sustainability and are taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint. All our major partner growers are accredited by their domestic bodies.
